This was happening simultaneously in the east sky and the west sky today at 6:30 AM, seen from my yard. Date: March 10, 2012.

Had I been a minute sooner, I could have captured the full disk of the setting moon, but this is sufficient, for the effect of the rising sun, touching the setting moon.    I only did the diptych because it was east and west sky events at the same time, as fast as I could create one exposure, turn the tripod, and focus, create the second one.

MARCH 14, 2012

RAIN in forecast tonight and for the rest of the week, so I went out tonight at sunset and came away with two snaps of an interesting sky wherre the setting sun looked to be in flames.

March 12, 2012, before the rain, Image 1.

Image 2 of the setting sun, March 12, 2012 before the rain

These two images seemed the epitome of suburbian sunsets.. and the sky was very interesting with the unusual rays breaking through spotty clouds.
